3. User Responsibilities
3.1 Medical Disclaimer
Taper is not a medical device and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or health condition. The App is designed as a self-monitoring tool only.
3.2 Not Medical Advice
Information provided through the App is not medical advice. Users should consult qualified healthcare professionals regarding any medical questions or decisions about substance use, reduction, or cessation.
3.3 Accuracy of Information
You are solely responsible for the accuracy of the information you enter into the App. We do not verify the accuracy of user-provided information.
3.4 Risk Acknowledgment
You acknowledge that managing substance use carries inherent risks. The App is not a substitute for professional medical supervision, particularly when reducing or discontinuing substances with withdrawal potential.
4. Intellectual Property
5. User Data and Privacy
5.1 Local Storage and Optional Cloud Features
The App stores your data locally on your device. We do not currently maintain servers that store your personal information or substance use data.
We may offer optional cloud-based features in the future, such as the ability to sync your data or share progress with healthcare providers. These features will require your explicit opt-in and will not be enabled by default.
5.2 AI Features and Third-Party Processing
When you use AI-powered features (such as the AI Plan Builder), your messages and taper plan details are sent to Google Cloud's Vertex AI service for processing. This data is handled under a HIPAA Business Associate Agreement (BAA) between Taper Inc. and Google Cloud. Your data is never used to train AI models. The App requests your explicit consent before any data is sent to this service.
5.3 Privacy Policy
Your use of the App is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.
6. Limitation of Liability
6.1 No Warranties
The App is provided on an "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" basis. We expressly disclaim all warranties of any kind, whether express or implied.
6.2 Limitation of Liability
In no event shall Taper®, its directors, employees, partners, agents, suppliers, or affiliates be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including without limitation, loss of profits, data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses.

11. Subscription Terms
Taper offers optional auto-renewable subscription plans ("Taper Plans") that unlock additional features. Subscriptions may be purchased through the Apple App Store, Google Play, or RevenueCat Billing on the Taper website. The platform that processed your purchase controls billing, renewal, cancellation, and refund handling for that purchase.
11.1 Payment and Billing
If you subscribe through the Apple App Store, payment is charged to your Apple Account. If you subscribe through Google Play, payment is charged through your Google Play account. If you subscribe on the Taper website, RevenueCat Billing charges the payment method you select at checkout. Your receipt identifies the platform that processed your purchase.
11.2 Trials and Renewal
Unless otherwise stated at checkout, subscriptions automatically renew for the same billing period until canceled. Any free or promotional trial converts to a paid subscription at the price shown when you subscribed unless you cancel before the trial ends. Renewal timing and billing are governed by the platform that processed your purchase.
11.3 Managing Subscriptions
To manage or cancel a subscription, first open Taper and go to Settings → Customer Center. You may also manage your subscription directly through the platform that processed your purchase:
- Apple App Store: Use your Apple Account subscription settings.
- Google Play: Use the Subscriptions section of Google Play.
- Taper website: Use the Customer Portal link included in any billing email from RevenueCat.
Canceling stops future renewals. You will generally retain access through the end of the period you already paid for, subject to the applicable billing platform's terms. Deleting the Taper app does not cancel a subscription.
11.4 Refunds
Canceling a subscription does not automatically refund a previous charge. Refund availability depends on the platform that processed your purchase, its policies, and applicable law:
- Apple App Store: On iOS, you may start a refund request in Taper's Customer Center. You may also use Apple's refund request process. Apple determines eligibility for App Store refunds.
- Google Play: Request a refund through Google Play's refund process. Google may direct you to contact Taper depending on when you purchased and the circumstances of your request.
- Taper website: RevenueCat's Customer Portal does not provide customer-initiated refunds. Contact support@usetaper.app to request a refund for a purchase made on the Taper website.
If a web purchase is refunded, the funds are returned to the original payment method and access to the associated subscription benefits may end immediately.
11.5 Price Changes
Subscription prices may change. The platform that bills your subscription will provide any notice or request any consent required by its terms or applicable law. You may cancel before a price change takes effect.
11.6 Subscription Support
Use Taper's Customer Center, your billing platform's subscription settings, or RevenueCat's Customer Portal before contacting support. If those self-service options do not resolve the issue, contact support@usetaper.app.
